Our Bands
The Killian Band Program
 

The Killian Band is one of the largest organizations on campus with over 300 students enrolled in band in grades 6th through 8th grade.  The Killian Band has been named “Best in Class” and “Most Outstanding Group” at various North Texas performance festivals and continues to receive the highest ratings in UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contests.

 

Members of the Killian Band are regularly selected as members of the LISD All-District Band, Region 2 All-Region Band, and selected as Outstanding Soloists and Outstanding Musicians at LISD Solo & Ensemble Contests.

 

Students in the Killian Band enjoy a feeling of community and friendship while working together to develop skills and achieve common goals that they will carry with them for a lifetime!  After 8th grade, students in the Killian Band students advance to the award-winning and nationally recognized Hebron High School Band!

Beginning Band
 

The Beginning Band is the first step in your journey as a member of the Killian Middle School Band.  Students in the Beginning Band will enjoy instrument specific classes where they can learn to play their chosen instrument in a small-group setting. Students will learn how to properly assembly, hold, and play their instrument in a fun and progressive course designed to teach all of the skills necessary to perform concerts for your family and friends! The Beginning Band will perform several concerts throughout the first year. The Beginning Band performs as a combined group for the Winter Concert in December, the Spring Concert in May, and students that qualify for the "Competition Band" will go to the Beach Within Reach Contest in April and the Hurricane Harbor Trip! The Beginning Band is primarily made up of 6th grade students.

Symphonic Band


The Symphonic Band is our next step after Beginning Band.  The Symphonic Band is designed to emphasize continued development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy, as well as skills in ensemble balance, blend, and awareness. The Symphonic Band performs a Fall Concert in September, a Winter Concert in December, a Spring Concert in May, UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation in April, and the Beach Within Reach Contest in April. The Symphonic Band consists of 7th and 8th grade students.

Wind Ensemble
 

The Wind Ensemble is an advanced ensemble designed to emphasize continued individual development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy through a progressive curriculum of upper middle school level music literature. The Wind Ensemble performs a Fall Concert in September, a Winter Concert in December, a Spring Concert in May, UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation in April, and the Beach Within Reach Contest in April. The Wind Ensemble consists of 7th and 8th grade students.

Jazz Band

 

The Jazz Band is an extension of the Killian Band program that aims to encourage the development of individual skills such as technique, literacy, and improvisation through the introduction of various jazz styles. Students enrolled in Jazz Band will receive instruction on various jazz and pop music styles of recent history. Students wishing to enroll in jazz band must have completed the first year of Beginning Band and must also be enrolled in a regular band class. The jazz band meets before or after school during the spring semester.

Honors Band

 

The Honors Band is our most advanced ensemble designed to emphasize continued individual development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy through a progressive curriculum of upper middle school and high school level music literature. The Wind Ensemble performs a Fall Concert in September, a Winter Concert in December, a Spring Concert in May, UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation in April, and the Beach Within Reach Contest in April. The Honors Band also travels to compete in various North Texas area performance festivals as well as records for state and national contests. The Honors Band consists of mostly 8th grade students.
